Docs: don't abandon terminally ill patients

A survey of terminally ill patients and their doctors sheds light on a common issue: abandonment at the end of life. This is a common concern I hear from patients in this setting and it's something I emphasize. People need to hear things like "I will continue to be your doctor " and "I will be overseeing your care while you are on hospice." The doc who conducted the survey an oncologist suggests meeting with patients after they are on hospice housecalls or having phone calls to check in while they are on comfort measures. All have worked for me but now I understand more why these are so important to patients. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/03/090309161953.htm
